I don’t know what’s wrong with me.
I have this beautiful skill. This gift for building things. I see a problem, and I’m already planning how to solve it.
I have a perfume brand. I build websites. I’ve built business tools on Google Sheets. I’ve built apps that sync perfectly with those tools to make data entry easier. I have more ideas in my head, and honestly, I believe some of them could genuinely help people.
I’ve built things that are valuable.
People around me tell me, “You’re smart. You’re intelligent. You’re doing something really valuable.”
And I see it too. I know I’m building something.
I know some of the things I’ve created can genuinely make people’s lives better. But I don’t talk about them.
I don’t rave about them. I don’t post about them enough. I don’t tell people, “Hey, look at what I made.”
And the thing is, I don’t actually crave attention. If anything, I run from it. (If you know me at all, you would have noticed this about me)
I don’t necessarily want people looking at me. I don’t want all the attention that comes with putting yourself out there. But I do want people to use the things I’ve built. I want people to see the value in them.
I want the right person to come across something I’ve created and think, “This is exactly what I needed.”
But how will they ever find it if I’m not talking about it?
That’s where I struggle.
I don’t post on my status enough. Sometimes I’m tired. Sometimes I don’t know what to say. Sometimes I think about everything I could be talking about: the late nights, the failed attempts, the starting over, the things I’ve rebuilt from scratch.
There’s a school management tool I’ve been building for almost a year. A year.
Not because it should have taken a year to build. But because I kept going back to it. I’d build something, look at it, realize it wasn’t good enough, and start again. Over and over and over. Until I got to something that actually solves a problem.
And now I’m here. It’s probably about 90% done. And somehow, I’m still not talking about it.
I’ve tried.
I finished a version and started reaching out to schools. I sent messages. I asked people to join meetings. Some showed up. Some didn’t. At one point, WhatsApp restricted my account twice in less than two days because I was sending so many messages.
And even while doing all of that, there was still this voice in my head asking:
What if nobody comes?
What if nobody cares?
What if I don’t have the energy to keep following up?
What if I start this and then don’t have the strength to carry it all the way?
And honestly, sometimes I don’t.
That’s the part nobody really sees.
I’m very good at building. I can spend my time working on a project and I LOVE IT!
Give me a problem and enough time, and I’ll probably disappear for a while and come back with something.
I’ll give it my time. My money. My sleep. My sweat.
I’ll start again when it doesn’t work. I’ll obsess over the details. I’ll keep going until I can look at it and say, “Okay. This is good.”
But then comes the part where I have to say:
“Look. I built this.”
And somehow, that’s harder for me. I don’t know why.
Maybe it’s the fear of being seen. Maybe it’s the fear that something I worked so hard on won’t be received the way I imagined. Maybe it’s the exhaustion that comes after building something and realizing that building it was only half the work. Or maybe I’ve just become so comfortable quietly making things that I’ve forgotten something very simple:
People can’t use what they don’t know exists.
And this isn’t just about the school tool.
It’s my perfume brand. It’s the websites I build. It’s the business systems I’ve created. It’s the apps I’ve built to make things work together. It’s the ideas that are still sitting in my head because I haven’t found the courage, energy or consistency to put them out there.
There are so many things I want people to know about. Things I want people to hear about. Things I want people to see. Things I genuinely believe can help someone.
I don’t have a problem creating.
I have a problem showing people what I’ve created.
I can spend weeks building something quietly. But posting about it? Talking about it? Telling people, “I made this and I think it can help you”?
Somehow, that feels harder.
And that’s why I’m writing this. I’m writing because I think I need help.
I need to learn how to stop hiding behind the work.
I need to learn how to tell people about the things I’m building without feeling like I’m asking them to pay attention to me. Because maybe talking about your work isn’t always about wanting people to look at you. Maybe sometimes, it’s simply about making sure the thing you worked so hard to create actually reaches the people it was created for.
And I think I’m ready to learn that. I really am.
Because I have so many things I still want to build. So many problems I want to solve. (I wish you can take peek into my brain)
So many ideas I believe could make someone’s work easier, someone’s business better, or someone’s life a little simpler.
And I don’t want to spend all my time building beautiful things that nobody gets to use.
So, if you’re reading this and you’ve figured out how to put yourself and your work out there without feeling like you’re shouting for attention…
I genuinely need your help.
How do you do it? How do you consistently talk about your work without feeling like you’re seeking attention? How do you put yourself out there when you’d much rather just keep building quietly?
Because I don’t know exactly how to do this yet.
Please help me.
